The Leadership Program at TopKick Martial Arts Teaches Kids the 3 Skills of Confident Communication

We all know that communication is important, but did you know that there are three specific skills that confident communicators use? At Mastery Martial Arts, our leadership program helps children become aware of and practice these important skills. Keep reading to learn more!

WHAT ARE THE 3 SKILLS OF CONFIDENT COMMUNICATION?

There are three primary components to confident communication: the volume of our talking, the pace of our talking, and how we use our body language.

We accomplish this by using martial arts in an empowering way of combining communication and martial arts practice. Our students practice this training in our triangulation method of communication training.

Let’s take a closer look at each one.

THE VOLUME OF OUR TALKING

Have you ever noticed that some people speak really quietly, while others practically shout? While there’s nothing wrong with speaking at either end of the volume spectrum, confident communicators tend to find a happy medium. They project their voices so that they can be heard without yelling, and they modulate their volume depending on the situation. For example, they might speak more loudly in a crowded room or when they’re trying to make a point. On the other hand, they might lower their voices when they’re sharing something personal or sensitive.

Our method of training children to be aware of their volume and intentionally practice volume control. TopKick Instructors accomplish this by leading our young leaders through a variety of Confident Communication exercises in small groups as children learn and practice with each other in a fun way. Our students become very aware of their volume by varying their volume and communicating deliberately in a confident way.

THE PACE OF OUR TALKING

The pace is just as important as the volume when it comes to confident communication. Speaking too quickly can make you sound nervous or unprepared while speaking too slowly can make you seem bored or disinterested. That’s why confident communicators vary their pace depending on the situation. When they’re delivering a presentation or teaching a class, for instance, they’ll slow down so that their audience can process what they’re saying. But when they’re having a casual conversation with a friend, they’ll speak at a more natural pace.

HOW WE USE OUR BODY LANGUAGE

Finally, confident communicators know how to use their body language to enhance their message. They make eye contact, stand up straight, and use gestures to emphasize their points. They also know how to read other people’s body language and adjust accordingly. For example, if someone appears angry or upset, they’ll adjust their own nonverbal cues accordingly in order to de-escalate the situation.

At the core of the TopKick Martial Arts leadership program is the belief that everyone has the potential to be a leader. However, becoming a successful leader takes more than just innate ability and we can help your child become that Confident happy child you imagined them to become.

The TopKick Martial arts program helps young leaders develop these essential skills by teaching them how to use Pace, Volume, and body language in a congruent confident way. As a result, your child will become very comfortable being out in front of a crowd and communicating with others without fear or anxiety. On the contrary, your child will learn to love the spotlight.

CONCLUSION:

The Three Skills of Confident Communication are volume control of our talking pace and using effective Body language. All three working together create congruent communication skills.
